When you are ready for removal of an IUD , it can be removed simply by a doctor with a pair of forceps during a speculum examination. The procedure is quick and relatively painless

What to expect

The IUDs in Australia have a thread on them so they are straightforward to remove; the procedure is therefore relatively quick and painless, only taking a few minutes. We use a speculum to look inside your vagina and a long pair of forceps to gently pull on the thread to remove the IUD with minimal discomfort to you. It feels similar to having a Cervical Screening Test done and you should not experience any side effects.
